I was lucky enough to see Alan Gelfand skate in 1980. He was at Zoo World in Dallas. Zoo World was put on every year by KZEW 98 FM radio at I believe the Dallas Convention Center in Downtown. They had a big halfpipe ramp there and Alan was hitting some serious air that day. There were other skaters there but I don’t recall any of their names. A few months later I ventured over with a buddy to the Rat’s Hole and Thrasher was covering a contest that day. Like 44 years ago. Total blast from the past showing that Donel Skateboards ad with Stuart Singer in Skateboarder Magazine. Stuart made the “Who’s Hot” section in Skateboarder Magazine. I hadn’t thought of them in many years. Love your channel and thanks for posting these.

Interesting story about Tod Prince getting hassled drinking in his front yard. I used to love the no open container law in Austin and drinking at the skate parks and while fishing. Before I moved there the first time in 2000, they had the drive-thru daquiri bars and, of course, it was legal to drink and drive the whole time I was there. I guess Houston is a little more strict. Thanks for the interview, man.

Thought a lot latly about all the reasons that led up to him passing at the shop He had more help than people thought. I must’ve done about 80% of the production and marketing up till his passing for the last seven years or so. There’s definitely many reasons why he passed in the shop and that business was going down. He would never make changes and make sacrifices and take certain chances, but there’s all kinds of reasons behind those things I watch that place suffer for seven years until he couldn’t find anybody else to help him. But he was really good at keeping things quiet. he definitely wanted the credit as doing it all himself, but it’s more than contributions stuff like this is a contribution, but he had more help than people know. if it weren’t for him getting into the roller derby industry that business would’ve been long dead since Tony Hawk days died down. I give so much things over those years to the roller derby community for keeping him alive as lo my as they did. Rest in Peace Wild bill. Thank you for your efforts for this contribution to his name. He had skateboarding in his heart big time, but the reality is the competition triumphed. 187/ protec, there’s a lot of things he could’ve done on the inside that would’ve made it a lot easier for the brand to thrive in business, but he stuck to his core roots, and it was always a very noble thing to see. I’m sure we can all appreciate the things he did and how well he kept the products quality . Would make an interesting video. You did a great job again thank you for your contribution. 🤙
